Researchers recently discovered that the elaborate and vibrant peacock tail is not just a dazzling display, it can also emit low frequency infrasound when shaking. While human ears can’t pick up the rumbling other pea fowl can. Fascinating!
Snowman, Tucson Style
Spotted downtown. Thought I’d share this, you know, to commiserate with all of you who have been blanketed with the white stuff lately. After all, it was only 62 here today. Brrrr!
Nandi, Star of Reid Park Zoo
Nandi celebrated her 6 month birthday this morning. She is such a happy, active young lady. She sure smiles a lot! Mom is always nearby in case Nandi runs into trouble. Dad, with the capped tusk, is mainly concerned with finding the treats that are hidden throughout their habitat. After a busy morning, which included a dust bath, Mom took Nandi to the back for her afternoon nap.
Cat in Tree
Cruz is a two-year old male mountain lion, residing at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. When he was about four months old he was found in a backyard in southern California, scared and emaciated. After California Game & Fish rescued him they knew he wouldn’t be able to fend for himself in the wild (he hadn’t learned any of the needed skills) so they started looking for a permanent home. Thankfully, ASDM had space available and Cruz came to Tucson.
Cruz was very lively today, I wonder if it was the lovely weather or a case of spring fever that riled him up?
Wildflowers for Valentine’s
The first poppy blooms of the season opened in my yard today – coincidence? I think not…
Four different poppy flowers and a globemallow for good measure.
An Alright Guy
Should’ve posted this sooner, ah well. Two weeks ago Todd Snider played Club Congress. He walked out on stage barefoot, looking like Gilligan. Just him, a silly hat, and a guitar (and a magic mushroom but we’re not going to talk about that). He proceeded to delight, entertain, and enlighten us. This was my fourth time seeing Todd in concert – what talent!
Yeah, we think you’re an alright guy, Todd. We think you’re alright!
Wylie, My Interior Dictator
Ongoing battle in my household – how rugs should be placed.
Here’s how I like them:

Sussudio in Tucson?
Noticed this while signing the Guest Book at the DeGrazia Gallery in the Sun. Was Phil Collins in Tucson last week?
Finger pointing courtesy of my talented assistant, Lisa.
My dear friend Lisa flew down from Portland, OR for a visit last week. It began raining when she stepped out of the airport and stopped raining 3 days later when I returned her to the airport.
While not enjoyable for Lisa (since she deals with that kind of weather all the time) those of us who live here in southern Arizona were thrilled. Thank you for the wet weather and the good times!
Yes, It Gets Hot Here in the Summer. But Not That Hot!
Yikes! I know the Phoenix area is warmer than Tucson but those temperatures are scary – especially for this time of year.
Poor Wickenburg and Cave Creek!
